Keyamo, the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, tweeted on his verified account that he had learned that a lawyer was assuring opposition members that President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inauguration could be postponed until May 29. Another claim was that international lawyers had been flown into the country to thwart the inauguration.

He said- “I read somewhere that some supposedly learned fellow is assuring the nattering nitwits that the inauguration of Bola Tinubu can be legally stopped before May 29th, and yet another story that some foreign lawyers have been flown in to achieve that purpose. Then I shook my head and murmured under my breath, ‘illiteracy is truly a disease and it is sad that some unscrupulous characters are taking advantage of these poor fellows’.”

Bola Tinubu was declared the winner of the presidential election held on February 25, but Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who finished second and third, respectively, contested the outcome. They petitioned the tribunal to overturn the result, arguing that the election was rigged in Tinubu’s favor.

Tinubu is set to be sworn in on May 29th, barring any court intervention, but there have been appeals to postpone the ceremony until the tribunal rules on the case.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal recently said that the hearing of the petitions would commence on May 8.
