An employee at a San Francisco dry cleaner was charged with six counts of misdemeanor invasion of privacy after he allegedly recorded women in the shop’s dressing room with a hidden camera, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Several women filed police reports saying the employee had asked them to undress while their clothes were being tailored at Divisadero Heights Cleaners, which is on the 1100 block of Divisadero St., the DA’s office said in a statement. The employee allegedly placed a clock in the room and constantly adjusted it, which the women believe was a hidden camera.

The San Francisco Police Department said in a news release that after a woman reported on Nov. 15, 2022, that she’d possibly been secretly recorded at the business, an investigation revealed that five other women had filed police reports detailing similar experiences at the same location.

SFPD then obtained a search warrant and subsequently arrested a 31-year-old male suspect on March 25, 2023, the department said.

“I would like to thank all of the women who came forward and shared their stories with investigators,” San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in the Tuesday statement.

If the employee is convicted of all six charges, he could serve up to three years in county jail, the DA’s office said.

Another employee at the business told SFGATE that the suspect is not currently employed at Divisadero Heights Cleaners.

The DA’s office said that the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the SFPD tip line at 415-575-4444 or text TIP411. Additionally, anyone who visited the dry cleaning company in the past year and believes they may have information pertinent to the investigation should contact the SFPD tip line and mention case number 220787181.
