Jimmy Buffett was forced to cancel his Saturday concert in Charleston, South Carolina, on Thursday morning after suffering from undisclosed health issues — “Growing old is not for sissies.”

Jimmy Buffett wrote on his Facebook page Thursday that his scheduled performance on Saturday, May 20, with the Coral Reefer Band would be rescheduled, with all tickets being honored once a new date is announced. The 76-year-old “Margaritaville” singer was hospitalized following undisclosed medical issues.

“Challenges make life interesting,” wrote Buffett, quoting Mark Twain. “However, overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”

“I had a sudden change of plans this week that affected us all. Two days ago, I was just back from a trip to the Bahamas,” he explained. “Thawing out from the California ‘winter tour,’ and chomping at the bit to get to Charleston. I had to stop in Boston for a check-up but wound up back in the hospital to address some issues that needed immediate attention.”

“Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you,” continued Buffett in the way only he can, before thanking fans for their support. “I also promise you that when I am well enough to perform, that is what I’ll be doing in the land of She-Crab soup. You all make my life more meaningful and fulfilled than I would have ever imagined as a (tow)-headed little boy sitting on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico.”

Unfortunately, this is the second time Buffett has been faced with hospitalization in less than a year. In September, he was also forced to suspend some tour dates for undisclosed health issues that landed him in the hospital. Thankfully, the singer was able to return to the stage in February.

Jimmy Buffett’s most recent album was 2020’s Songs You Don’t Know By Heart. He is one of the wealthiest musicians in the world, with a net worth as of 2023 of $1 billion.
