May 08, (THEWILL) – It was a historic event at the Ndubuisi Kanu Square, Owerri, where members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of Imo extraction including their supporters, openly joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a couple of weeks ago.

Their aim, whether to push the APC forward or to pull it down, should not create a sense of worry among the governing party’s stalwarts. The fact remains, “Imo APC has stolen the hearts of other party chieftains. To me, APC is a soul winner.

These decampees can be said to have joined their brother, a former two-time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Governor Hope Uzodinma, to lift Imo to an enviable heights. On the other hand, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha deserves my applause because he earlier envisaged the need to allow the current flow of the unprecedented infrastructural developments across the State not to be truncated. His withdrawal has really held him in high esteem, bearing in mind that politics should not be seen as a do-or-die affair.

Ihedioha may join the race in the 2027 politicking year after the present administration would have completed its eight years in office. In every sense of the word, what should bother any patriotic Imo person at this developmental conscious time is nothing, but what idea to proffer for the greater good of Ndi Imo.

This time, pull-him-down syndrome, backbiting, bitterness, jealousy, rancour, blackmail are viruses the APC should be mindful of, especially now the electioneering for the November 11 gubernatorial election is drawing near. The Imo APC should be ready to welcome more big heads into its political family. The new converts should be offered an open arms by all and sundry in the APC; and be enjoined to eschew division.

It is advisable to critically analyse their home-coming in a view to proffering a better way forward for the APC. Leadership of the APC should try to woo more people into the party and ensure nobody is sidelined. All eyes should be on the newly- joined member. Guidance and directive are needed so that they would not be deceived.

During the administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, under the same All Progressives Congress (APC), some of these men that had boldly joined Senator Hope Uzodinma, were loyalists of the ex-Governor. They have now paid their allegiance to the shared prosperity government of Uzodinma, whose sterling performances have been appreciated by not only Imo people, but residents of other States.

I can vividly remember the past years when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was at the corridors of power for Sixteen (16) good years, it was the talk of the town, then. All the “who is who” in politics joined the party because it was incharge. Now, the APC has taken over, defection from one party is not a crime, but the leadership of the ruling party should be careful not to allow detractors to sink the future of their platform into the abyss.

It is interesting that the Imo All Progressives Congress Chairman, Hon McDonald Ebere, had received these people on behalf of the Governor, Sen Hope Uzodimma during the occasion which was held at Ndubuisi Kanu square.

Ebere told Rt Honourables Ikenna Elezieanya, Bede Eke and others that joined the ruling party that they came at the right time when Ndi Imo were joining forces to lift the State to higher heights.

He said all of the defectors now have equal membership in the party irrespective of when they joined, and promised that their loyalty would be richly rewarded if they contribute to the success of the November 11 Governorship election for which Sen Hope Uzodimma has been generally endorsed for reelection by sundry groups.

Before it is too late, Imo APC should incorporate the old members of the party into their activities. The likes Iheukwu Alaribe, Hillary Eke, TOE Ekechi, Daniel Nwafor, Uche Nwosu, Prof Nnamdi Obiaraeri, George Etche, Jude Ejiogu, Dr Jetrude Oduka, Ugochi Nnanna Okoro, Prof. Tony Anwuka and others, believing that these men and women are not joining the ruling party for destructive reasons. that it is better to build than to pull down.

Therefore, as former Governor Rochas Okorocha, Udenwa and Ihedioha’s men have started identifying with the present administration for a continuity of good work, they should know that an Imo of our collective dream, is possible.
