Sister-title The Oxford Times is in the running for Local Weekly Newspaper of the Year alongside Cambridge Independent, Isle of Wight County Press, Bridgnorth Journal, New Milton Advertiser & Lymington Times and Newbury Weekly News.

Also up for a Newspaper Award is the team at Newsquest Oxfordshire’s Print Centre.

Producing and distributing newspaper across the UK, the Osney Mead-based group have been praised for their work with The Oxford Times and others as they vie for the title of Regional Newspaper Printer of the Year.

Oxford Mail:

Regional Editor Andrew Colley said: “This hat-trick of nominations for our teams in editorial, advertising, sales and the print centre is a testament to the hard work which goes on day in, day out to serve the people of Oxfordshire.

“The Mail and Times are historic titles with many accolades over the years, but I’m delighted to see the spotlight once again on our team for the many successes and scoops from 2022.”

The latest award nominations comes after the Oxford Mail was named a finalist for Large News Brand of the Year at the Regional Press Awards.

Mr Colley said: “When I took over at the end of 2021, my opening editorial promised that we would be your biggest champion and stand up for our county.

“We’ve seen a return to a campaigning spirit, broken big exclusives and launched investigations whilst continually holding authority to account.

“We could not, and would not, do any of that without the support of our audience and I thank you, our readers, for backing us and continuing to read our stories in your thousands.

“The final thanks go to my small but formidable team of editors and reporters who have shown throughout that they are the best in the business.”

The Newspaper Awards, previously known as the newsawards, relaunched last year with a fresh focus on “production and innovation” in printed newspapers.

Gary Cullum, director of The Newspaper Awards, says: “Our panel of 16 expert judges has scrutinised the best printed newspapers and magazine supplement products from the UK, Republic of Ireland and around the world.

“The overall verdict is that the printed newspaper remains integral to the success of the industry and the quality of many of the entries was outstanding.”

All the Newspaper Award winners will be announced at a black-tie gala dinner on March 28 at the London Hilton Bankside.

The Regional Press Awards winners will be announced on March 8.
