Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill is a free man in terms of charges on his criminal record. On Jan. 12, he was pardoned by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf over gun and drug charges from 2007.

The “Dreams & Nightmares” rapper was convicted in 2008 for a 2007 arrest in which a Philadelphia police officer said Meek Mill pointed a gun at him while in possession of drugs during an arrest outside his Philadelphia home. He faced multiple charges, which were eventually dropped after a court appearance in 2019.

Meek’s non-profit organization REFORM Alliance shared a post on Instagram revealing the news of the 35-year-old rapper’s pardon. Meek Mill also used his organization to treat kids to a Brooklyn Nets game last December.

On his Instagram page, Meek Mill wrote the caption, “ I’m only gone(sic) do more for my community on God!”

He recently donated $7 million to low-income schools in Philadelphia.

Breaking: Meek Mill Announces He’s Finally Free: “I’m Not On A Probation And I’m Not A Felon Anymore

Maybach Music Group’s Meek Mill is finally a free man. The hip-hop veteran went to social media today to announce he’s no longer on probation.

Meek went to Instagram to break the major news to followers.

Today, Meek had his publicized 2008 drug and gun conviction case completely thrown out.

A Pennsylvania appeals court threw out rapper Meek Mill’s decade-old conviction in a drug and gun case. The unanimous three-judge opinion grants the rapper born Robert Williams a new trial because of new evidence of alleged police corruption. The Pennsylvania Superior Court also overturned the trial judge’s parole violation findings that sent the entertainer back to prison in 2017 for five months. (USA Today)

Despite the officer’s claim, Meek has maintained never pointing a gun outside his home in 2007.

The officer who testified at his trial said Williams pointed a gun at him during the arrest outside his southwest Philadelphia home. Williams has denied pointing a gun at police. Calls seeking comment from prosecutors about whether they plan to retry the case were placed. (Washington Post)

Since his 2007 arrest, Meek has found himself behind bars on petty probation violations.

Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley had kept Williams on probation for ten years over his arrest in 2007 at age 19. He is now 32 and has been called back to court repeatedly over technical violations of his parole, many of them involving travel issues as he has risen to fame under the mentorship of music mogul Jay-Z.
