Hina Khan exclusive on Shadyantra.

By Bhavna Agarwal: Hina Khan returns to acting with Shadyantra. The actress has been constantly pushing the boundaries with her choice of work and was last seen in Lines, which was a short feature film. She also shot for Country of the Blind, a short film which was to premiere at Cannes. In between, Hina featured in a couple of music videos as well. As she returned to acting, in an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, we asked Hina if she had become more conscious of her choice now, if there had been any chance in the way actors who have worked on television have been perceived and rumours around her relationship with Rocky Jaiswal.

Excerpts from the interview below:

Are you more conscious of what you pick and don’t pick, given that people have their eyes set on your work?

I have always been particular about the kind of work that I choose. The roles and the script must be gamechangers for me. It must be different from what I have done in the past and it must be a pathbreaking concept for me to take up.

What excited you the most about Shadyantra?

It is a teleplay, of course! I have done films, television, webshows, webfilms, so a teleplay was definitely something I wanted to experience. 8-hour-long rehearsals, learning 90 pages of a script in 5 days and understanding the theatrical aspect as a performer was also super interesting and an overall great experience for me.

While things have definitely taken a turn for good, do you finally see a change in the way actors are approached in the industry?

Actors are now being approached for their role as actors, as performers, for the content they can generate. Not just the medium, but more for their content. The lines are blurring now, and it is mainly because of the steady rise of OTT, and as an actor I am so happy to see this change!

Recently, Huma mentioned how actors today also have the pressure of being an influencer. Do you feel that too?

I don’t see it as pressure, but more on the lines of us actors adapting to the changes that are taking place in the industry. The last few years have seen a drastic boost in the world of social media, and I feel that all of us somewhere must adapt to this change to be in sync with the times that are currently relevant to everybody. Though, of course, everything should be done as per each person’s own capacity to do it. Then there is never any pressure.

When rumours about your relationship float, does it bother you? Or have you become immune to it now?

I am way beyond letting rumours affect me anymore. There is so much more for me to work on, to build myself up that I cannot invest my time focussing on these things.
