FuboTV was down during the World Cup, preventing users from watching the entire semifinal between France and Morocco. According to FuboTV spokesperson Jennifer Press, the ongoing outage stems from a “cyber-related incident.”

Hours later, FuboTV’s status page indicated that the service was still down and had been experiencing issues since around 9:20AM ET, affecting both account creation and management as well as streaming. When I try to open the FuboTV app on my TV, the service displays an endless loading screen. In an update posted at 6PM ET, FuboTV says it’s “beginning to see some recovery to the ongoing issue.”

On Thursday, FuboTV issued a press release saying it did not have any bandwidth issues that affected its service, and that “We were instead the target of a criminal cyber attack.”

FuboTV takes this matter very seriously. Once we detected the attack, we immediately took steps to contain the incident and worked to restore service to all of our users as quickly as possible. Service was fully restored by last evening. We deeply regret the disruption caused by this incident in the meantime.

We have reported the incident to law enforcement and have engaged Mandiant, an industry-leading incident response firm, to assist with our continuing investigation and response. Our primary focus currently is on ensuring that the incident is fully contained and that there is no threat of further disruption for any of our customers.

Our investigation is at an early stage, but we are committed to transparency regarding this incident. We will provide an update at an appropriate time when we have more information to share.

The entire FuboTV team is absolutely dedicated to delivering an exceptional experience while protecting customer data. We appreciate the trust our customers have in us and the opportunity to serve them everyday. Although no company can ever be immune from the risk of cyber attacks, we assure you that we are working diligently with our outside cybersecurity experts to take all appropriate steps to remediate this incident and to prevent any similar incident from recurring in the future.

The game between France and Morocco started at 2PM ET, and the outage caused subscribers to miss out on the whole game. As FuboTV is one of the few streaming services that offer access to the World Cup, many users only subscribed to the service for that very reason (myself included).

“Apologies to customers who are having issues with the France vs Morocco game. We are addressing the issue.” FuboTV wrote on Twitter during the match. The service also included a link to stream the game on Fox’s website, but this obviously doesn’t offer the same experience as watching it on your TV.

Update, 4:30PM ET: Updated to indicate that the game has ended.

Update, 7:05PM ET: Updated to add a statement from a FuboTV spokesperson.

Update December 15th, 11:50AM ET: Added link and information from the full list of updates.
