Max Verstappen may be a beast on a racing track, but he is quite a family man away from it. He flew his mother, father, grandmother, and aunt in to watch him win his second championship at the Japanese GP. He also flew her to the Singapore GP. Despite that, he is still her grandson and cannot get away after making a joke on her.

In 2020, at Silverstone, Max was unhappy with his car’s pace and let out a bit of his ‘Max Max’ persona. He did not mince any words when he told the team boss, Christian Horner, about how slow it was. He said, “I have the pace of an old grandma.”

Grandma Marianne did not like this one bit and let her feelings known when she met Max after the incident. Marianne said, “He was wrong there – I had to tell him – I don’t drive like an old granny at all.”

Grandma Verstappen admitted to getting emotional every time she talks about Max’s 2021 title-winning season. “That last race at Abu Dhabi was something different. When I talk about it now, I immediately get tears in my eyes again. I’d given up on him winning it. But then the safety car came out. Our family knew then that he had his chance to win it.”
