Valparaiso University’s Kinder lernen Deutsch program has resumed for second grade through fourth grade after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is a German language program for children in second through fourth grade, and classes are from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays at the Kade-Duesenberg German House and Cultural Center at Valparaiso University. Classes are $75 per person, and beginners and children without prior experience are welcome. Beginning this month, Indiana Dunes Tourism will launch the Coffee & Sweets trail, which is a culinary trail that includes local coffee and sweet shops near the Indiana Dunes National State Park. Among the businesses participating are Fluid Coffee Roasters and Dagger Mountain. Each participating shop has created a special Indiana Dunes-themed drink. Participation is available at the train by signing up at go.indianadunes.com/coffee.

Billy Gillman will be the first to perform for the PortageLIVE! Fall 2022 to Spring 2023 live music concerts. Gillman will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Portage High School East Auditorium. Admission for students is free and general adult admission is $15 at the door. PortageLIVE! Is now in its 33rd season of bringing live entertainment to the community, and the concerts will continue Nov. 18 with a show by Elton Jeff & The Honky Cats.

The Tobacco Education and Prevention Coalition for Porter County will co-host a Youth Wellness Forum from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 at Harre Union at Valparaiso University. The forum, done in alliance with the Valparaiso University College of Nursing and Health Professions, will be co-hosted in partnership with Tobacco Free Lake County Indiana and A Positive Approach to Teen Health. Keynote speaker Victor DeNoble will virtually present “Inside the Dark Side: The Biology of Addiction.”
