CHICAGO, IL, September 12, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ — Eric Wenzler, PharmD, has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Motivated to make an impact in pharmacy, Dr. Wenzler has focused his career on research and clinical pharmacy. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the College of Pharmacy of the University of Illinois at Chicago and a clinical pharmacist with the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. In his roles, he conducts research, helps treat a diverse patient population, and works with new pharmacists in the field, who wish to attain advanced research training.
Dr. Wenzler holds a PharmD from Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy and is currently attending the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health through which he is studying for a Master of Public Health. He has completed PGY1 and PGY2 residencies at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and fellowship through the University of Illinois at Chicago. In order to remain current with industry trends, Dr. Wenzler is affiliated with the American Society of Microbiology, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists, the American Societies of Health Systems Pharmacists, and Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy. Moreover, he serves on the editorial board for Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy – Antimicrobial Resistance and Open Forum Infectious Diseases and as an advisor to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) Subcommittee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing.
Throughout his career, Dr. Wenzler has authored several articles, book chapters, and presentations related to his research and clinical practice. His laboratory research primarily focuses on discovering optimal treatment regimens against resistant Gram-negative pathogens. His clinical research emphasis is investigating antimicrobial pharmacokinetics after novel dosing regimens in healthy volunteers and in special patient populations including critically ill patients and those receiving forms of hemodialysis. His outcomes research attempts to translate and apply the in vitro and clinical research findings to patients afflicted with infectious diseases syndromes, specifically exploring the impact of bacterial genotypic-phenotypic relationships on the clinical outcomes of patients infected with resistant pathogens.
Though his career has been filled with standout moments, Dr. Wenzler is especially proud of his work with aspiring pharmacists, as well as his role in the creation of the Critical Care Infectious Disease Pharmacotherapy Fellowship. Now a recognized expert in his field of focus, Dr. Wenzler credits his success to the support of his mentors, who encouraged him to pursue a specialization in infectious diseases. Looking toward the future, he aims to expand his research program and continue to make a positive impact on his patients.
