Premier League: Five golden boot contenders

The race for this season’s Premier League golden boot is arguably the most competitive it has ever been, with plenty of big name summer arrivals.

Here, we take a loo at some of the contenders for the award this season.

Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur

Kane has his eye on Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record

Last season it was Kane’s teammate Heung-Min Son who won the award, but Kane will fancy his chances this term. The England captain struggled at the start of last season until the arrival of Antonio Conte, and he will look to hit the ground running with the Ittalian in charge from the start this time around.

Erling Haaland

Manchester City new boy Erling Haaland arrives in England having scored 86 goals in 89 games for former side Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegian has been prolific throughout his short career, and few would bet against him continuing to do so in Manchester.

Mohamed Salah

Salah has scored 121 goals in 194 Premier League matches

The Egyptian has won three golden boot awards, including in each of the first two seasons he spent with Liverpool. He shared the award with Son last term, but will be looking to top the charts outright this term. Sadio Mane has left Liverpool, but Darwin Nunez has arrived and the Uruguayan will be expected to take on his goalscoring responsibility.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo scored 24 goals last season on his return to Manchester United, including 18 in the league. The Portuguese may see a reduction in his playing time this term, but nobody would rule out the ex-Real Madrid man topping the goalscoring charts by May.

Gabriel Jesus

Jesus’ move to Arsenal means he is no longer the understudy

Arsenal new boy Jesus arrives in England having won four Premier League titles, but much of his time in Manchester was spent in the shadow of Sergio Aguero. The Brazilian scored just eight league goals last term following Aguero’s departure, but was in sensational form for the Gunners in pre-season.
